Manual Update Procedure (Windows Only)
Usually you can update your installation of SIMetrix with the menu Help | Check for Updates.... However, on some systems this will not function due to Internet security issues. This topic explains how to update by manually downloading the update patch file.
Procedure
- Download the correct patch file for the version you are using. (See table below). See Help | About... to find out which version you are using. If using a 64 bit version the version will be suffixed "(x64)".
- Important: shutdown SIMetrix or SIMetrix/SIMPLIS. If you don't do this the patch will not be effective until after the next reboot
- Run patch file and follow instructions.

If you installed version 6 from CD
Due to a bug the standard patch files don't work if you are using version 6.0, 6.0b, 6.0c or 6.0e and you originally installed that version from either a physical CD that we shipped to you, or from a CD you burned from a downloaded .iso file. We have developed a separate patch file for these installs. Use one of the patch files above labelled "version 6.0-6.0e originally installed from CD". Note that if you installed 6.0g or later from CD you should use the regular patch files as normal.
Once you have run the special patch file, you should then run the regular patch file either using the Help | Check for Updates... menu or by using the regular version 6 patch files above.
Note that the above also applies when updating using the menu Help | Check for Updates...
Important: Update patch files only apply service updates for bug fixes. Feature updates require the full install program to be run.
